The 10-day festival of food and funfair rides started at 4pm on Friday, September 29 and will go on until next Sunday, October 8
has been staged in Nottingham since at least 1284 and is incredibly popular to this day, with thousands returning to feast on mushy peas and Cock-on-a-Stick and ride attractions like Ice Jet Matterhorn and Star Flyer. The good weather and the cancellation of the looming tram strikes resulted in a pleasant opening day for stall holders and visitors, with both delighted that the Nottingham event had returned once again.
Mr Warwick, 53, who has taken on the mantle of the tradition, added:"It was quite good last year, despite some of the weather. We're staying authentic after all these years and at Goose Fair we're the original mushy peas stall and the best." “I think everybody in Nottingham comes along, don't they," he said."I don’t like the rides but I like seeing the lights and having some food. I’ve been coming for about 40 years now and I still think it’s great.”
Michael Beckford, 37, from Clifton, brought his daughter Harper, six, along to the fair while it was still relatively quiet earlier in the day. “It’s the first time bringing my daughter here, I’ve been loads when I was younger,” he said.
