The man, identified as Gary Marx, 38, was detained as police called for back-up and conducted a search of the theater. They found two other men, identified as Nicholas Degrego, 25, and Jason Kilbourne, 32, in addition to tools that appeared to have aided them in the burglary.Degrego and Kilbourne were booked for additional charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and probation violation, respectively.
Police returned to the theater at about 4:46 p.m. on Friday afternoon after receiving more complaints of a person attempting to break in. The suspect, again Marx, was once again arrested on charges of attempted burglary in addition to vandalism and possession of burglary tools and is now in custody.
Perry told SFGATE on Sunday afternoon that nothing appeared to be stolen, but that the suspects went under the stage, opened it and raised the theater’s organ, in addition to making popcorn and leaving the machines on. He also reported damages to the leaded glass of the box office, which has reportedly been broken five times since January, as well as the interior of the theater, which included a damaged film projector with dented metal sustained from what appeared to be multiple “hammer blows.
