Ridley Scott has delivered some of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time to the world, and it all dates back to his work in 1979 on Alien. The legendary sci-fi horror movie not only inspired a generation of horror masterpieces, but it also kicked off a franchise that’s still going strong to this day.

Just last year, Scott produced the first Alien TV show, Alien: Earth, and he’s also working closely with Fede Alvarez to find a director for the sequel to Alien: Romulus. Scott has also directed other legendary sci-fi epics like The Martian , and he will return to the sci-fi genre later this year when his new movie, The Dog Stars, hits theaters everywhere this August. The film stars Josh Brolin, Jacob Elordi, and Margaret Qualley. Just a few years after Scott directed Alien, he also helmed another sci-fi classic, Blade Runner, the 1982 cyber thriller starring Harrison Ford and Edward James Olmos. The film is still hailed to this day as one of the greatest sci-fi accomplishments of all time, and it even spawned a legacy sequel, Blade Runner 2049. Harrison Ford returned to star in Blade Runner 2049, but the film’s primary lead is Ryan Gosling. Denis Villeneuve directed the movie, but Scott was involved as a producer. Blade Runner is not streaming anywhere in America, but the film is charting in the Apple TV top 10 as one of the most popular rentals and purchases in several countries. However, due to its picking up steam in international markets and Scott’s popularity, it likely won’t be long before it returns to one of the big platforms. When Does ‘Blade Runner 2099’ Come Out? The Blade Runner universe isn’t stopping at Blade Runner 2049. Prime Video has been developing a sequel series, Blade Runner 2099, for years now. Plot details about the show are being kept under wraps, but it’s confirmed to star Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh opposite Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer and Tom Burke . Jonathan van Tulleken is the primary director on the series, with Tom Spezialy also directing. The show still does not have an official release date, but it is expected to premiere before the end of 2026. Scott is involved as a producer, but any potential involvement from Gosling or Ford has not been disclosed. Be sure to rent or purchase Blade Runner on VOD platforms like Prime Video and Apple TV, and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
