Forty-three critically missing children are safe for the holidays, thanks to a major operation in north Florida.
Operation Northern Lights, led by the U.S. Marshals Service, was conducted with the help from multiple agencies, including law enforcement agencies in Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Escambia and Walton counties.
The Pensacola and Crestview police departments also participated. Three children from our area -- all from Okaloosa County -- were recovered. A 17-year-old and a 1-year-old were found outside Jackson, Mississippi. A non-custodial adult was arrested for interference with child custody. Other charges may be pending. A 15-year old victim of a non-custodial abduction out of Okaloosa County was also found in Ocala, Florida. That adult was arrested and charged with interference with child custody. Other charges may be pending.A total of nine arrests were made.
