KOTA KINABALU: A total of 409 Indonesian illegal immigrants, plus 11 from Pakistan, China and Sri Lanka were deported to their country of origin on June 30.
National Security Council director for Sabah, Sitti Saleha Habib, said the remaining 11 were forced to return home via air routes.
She said this brought the total number of illegal immigrants deported so far this year to 4,355 people. "Prior to their deportation, these people were tested for Covid-19, and those who were free of the virus were allowed to leave," she said. Sitti said throughout their detention up to their deportation, the immigrants were bound by strict standard operating procedure amid Covid-19 fears.
The Sabah Immigration Department and other security agencies were also involved in the deportation process."Let us all protect this country from illegal immigrants. Don't harbour or employ illegal immigrants," Sitti said, urging all Malaysians to work together in protecting the state and nation borders.
