Four schools in the Philippines remain among the 1,000 best institutions in the world, according to the 2021 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings released on Thursday.
This year’s rankings are launched at a challenging time for the whole world, with COVID-19 impacting universities and students alike.
Although down by 40 places, the University of the Philippines is still on the top spot for the Philippines at 396th place from 356th in the 2020 rankings.Both De La Salle University and University of Santo Tomas also maintained their 801-1000th rankings. Among the four Philippine universities in the list, UST is the only institution that received a four-star rating for its exceptional facilities, graduate employability, teaching, research, social responsibility, internationalization, and inclusiveness.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology is still named the world’s best university for a record-breaking ninth consecutive year.According to the QS World University rankings, Asian universities showed “impressive” gains, as 26 institutions from the continent now feature in the global top 100, “more than ever before.”
The annual rankings are based on six performance indicators, namely academic reputation , employer reputation , faculty/student ratio , citations per faculty , international faculty ratio and international student ratio .
