Four people were injured early Thursday morning at the southwestern most point of Utah in a wrong-way driver crash, authorities said.

Four people were injured in a head-on crash involving a wrong-way driver at the southwesternmost point of Utah early Thursday, April 4, 2024. Four people were injured early Thursday morning at the southwesternmost point of Utah in a wrong-way driver crash, authorities said.

The incident happened on I-15 near Milepost 1 shortly after 3 a.m., when a Dodge avenger being driven by an elderly woman traveling south in the northbound lanes crashed head-on into a silver Lexus with three high school-aged boys, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety. The Utah Highway Patrol originally stated all four people had received "moderate" injuries, though an updated statement Thursday afternoon clarified that only minor injuries were reported and no one was transported to the hospital.

"It is suspected at this time that the vehicle was traveling the wrong way due to an elderly/disorientated issue," according to DPS. The right lane of the freeway was closed until approximately 6 a.m. No additional information was released.
