ByA Saturday night in the Spring Branch area turned violent when police say an intoxicated driver plowed into a crowded sidewalk near a neighborhood park, leaving four people with serious injuries. According to court records, the driver, identified as Jose Agustin Menjivar, has a history of alcohol-related offenses.

Witnesses reported that around 8 p.m., Menjivar drove into food vendor stands in front of Pitner Pocket Park near Hollister before striking a parked vehicle.Court documents state that Menjivar admitted to drinking five 25-ounce beers before losing consciousness behind the wheel. When officers arrived, they found four victims on the ground. Monday, an HPD spokesperson said they remain hospitalized with serious to life-threatening injuries.Menjivar now faces four intoxication assault charges, adding to four prior alcohol-related offenses on his record, including two misdemeanor DWIs and two felony convictions that previously sent him to prison.The 47-year-old told the court he is a Salvadoran national. He is currently being held without bond pending his next court appearance.
