Assistant City Manager Carl Simpson told The Dallas Morning News Monday that city employees are trying to find answers to lingering questions about the best...

One bill introduced in February, House Bill 2665, would stop any city or county from enforcing rules that ban properties from being used as short-term rentals. The bill would also prevent cities and counties from setting limits on how many people stay in a short-term rental property as well as how long or how often guests stay there.

Code Compliance Office Director Chris Christian during the April 4 meeting said his department would need at least 10 to 12 months to be ready to enforce the new regulations. Even then, he said code enforcement workers would be limited in how they address violations in real time. He noted Fort Worth still has rentals operating in residential zones despite passing similar regulations.

“We’re incredibly short staffed in our overall patrol force,” García said. “At this current time, I wouldn’t recommend us being the head or the lead of this enforcement.”
