Police on Thursday identified the victim as Johnny Markie Lewis. He lived in Fairfield.
West Precinct officers were dispatched just after 6:30 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a person down in the 2900 block of Avenue F.
Lewis was found unresponsive and pronounced dead on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald. The death initially appeared unclassified, but once the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office arrived on the scene, they determined he had been shot. Lewis is the city’s 108th homicide this year. Of those, eight have been ruled justified and two others happened in previous years, but the victims died in 2024.55-year-old man killed in east Alabama rollover crashIf you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
