I'm sorry, you paid HOW much for a pack of bacon?
I'm a Staff Writer for BuzzFeed, often covering topics like '90s–'00s nostalgia, relationships, food, history, celeb culture, and anything else the internet is buzzing about. As anyone who goes grocery shopping has noticed, it feels like everything has become wildly expensive lately.
Price inflation and price gouging have become way too common, leaving us laypeople to spend more than we can afford on everyday necessities. And we should be talking about it. So I went digging on Reddit for some wild grocery store prices that made people gasp, take out their phone, and snap a photo — and wow, it's actually Note: All of these photos are from Canadian stores. The exchange rate is 1 CAD=0.73 USD at the time I'm writing this, but it truly doesn't matter, and you'll get the idea regardless.Or if you'd rather spend your $10 on a literal twig — so small, you can barely see them on the shelf — go for it: And you better not be hosting any parties, because if you buy more than one of these bags of chips, they become over $8 per bag: This person, who proved you should never trust an actual good price these days, because there was a very specific reason this cheese was only $5: This one genuinely makes me sad as a semi-lactose-intolerant girlie, because I didn't think milk alternatives could get THIS pricey: But maybe it's a good thing I'm lactose intolerant, because I'll never have to justify spending this much on a small carton of ice cream:This shopper, who collected price tags over the course of four months and found that inflation is very much real: Even if you don't eat asparagus, you can probably tell that these don't look too good, which makes the price even more absurd:"I would guess it’s headed for the waste bin. They still price it like it’s a luxury item." I honestly don't blame this person if they don't eat healthy, given how expensive this one head of lettuce is: If you think joining membership programs will help you save a buck or two, I'll just leave this photo for you: Finally, I can gobble up one of these cups in 30 seconds and I'll still be hungry afterwards. So this doesn't sit right with me:Have you experienced price inflation recently? Let's talk about it in the comments below.
