And while it’s not Black-owned, Saltstone Ceramics is a small business that supports local and regional artists who, like Batiste, hail from the Pacific Northwest.

In addition to unusual ceramics, artist Avé Rivera also sells equally funky stickers and apparel.

$57 at Yowie Buy Locus Of Occult Mini Cairoli Tray $68 $68 Yowie also sells this fun tray for tiny trinkets like earrings. It’s made with white-and-black tie-dye marble and the design is inspired by 1970s-era backyard pools. Each tray is handmade by the Rockaway Beach–based studio Locus of Occult, so no two are exactly alike.
$139 at Marie Burgos Buy Malene Barnett Lava $1,550 $1,550 An actual work of art, this 16-inch-tall stoneware sculpture by artist and activist Malene Barnett is handmade and one-of-a-kind. The Brooklyn-based Barnett is the founder of the Black Artists + Designers Guild, a collective of independent Black creatives, and has shown her work at galleries and museums across the country.
$45 at Utility Objects Buy Carlynne Ceramics Portraiture Incense Holder $44 These painterly incense holders are made by hand by Nala Turner, a Brooklyn-based artist and post-graduate art therapist. They’re among a handful of ceramics she sells on her website, many of which feature similar portraiture depicting Black women.
