MANILA - The Department of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday that 302 more Filipino migrant workers from 5 countries returned to the Philippines on Monday after applying for repatriation.

The DFA said in a statement that the new batch of repatriates consists of 132 OFWs from Singapore, 121 from Algeria, 36 from France, 9 from Germany and 4 from Japan.

Philippine embassies in the said countries facilitated their repatriation in coordination with their manning agencies, the department said. The OFWs will undergo mandatory 14-day quarantine in hotels paid for by their employers or agencies, and accredited by the Bureau of Quarantine, said the DFA. "OFWs without agencies were endorsed to OWWA, while Overseas Filipinos will undergo mandatory quarantine in their respective homes," the department said.

More than 20,000 Filipino migrant workers have been repatriated after the COVID-19 started to rapidly spread worldwide. The pathogen has been wreaking havoc across the globe since its first emergence in China in November.
