With a local murder now unsolved for three decades, police are once again asking the public to come forward with information.
Published: Jun. 1, 2024 at 7:31 PM AKDTFAIRBANKS, Alaska - Thursday, May 30, marked the 30-year anniversary of the murder of David “Barry” McNulty. He was working his evening shift at the Garden Island Party Store on Illinois Street in downtown Fairbanks when he was shot and killed. His family is still looking for answers and justice.
His widow, Leilani, recalled her husband Barry was not supposed to work that night. Their daughter was using their only car that night, so he said he would walk home after work. Leilani told him not to worry about it, that she would pick him up from work after their daughter got home. Just after 11 p.m. that night, the Fairbanks Police Department responded to Garden Island’s panic alarm, and found McNulty dead from a gunshot wound. It seemed a robbery had taken place, and a few $20 bills were laying around.
