“Millions of women around the world are expressing their buying intent,” says Zeng, 27, cofounder and CEO. “It became very obvious to me there was a huge opportunity in marrying supply and demand.” Take Alex O’Dell, 29, who cofounded Floyd in 2014 to offer furniture that is designed to last. “Ikea, in part, has created a culture of disposable consumption. You buy a table and you throw it away the next time you move,” says O’Dell. The Detroit-based company makes furniture that can evolve with its owner. For instance, a twin bed can be turned into a king bed by adding additional slats. A small shelving unit can be reconfigured and expanded.
