The San Diego Humane Society, which is over capacity for dogs, will likely place the pets up for adoption soon

Dogs are taken by the San Diego Humane Society from a San Ysidro home that flooded Tuesday. Thirty dogs, two chickens and a cat were rescued from a San Ysidro home suffering flood damage due to a plumbing emergency Tuesday, the San Diego Humane Society said.

San Diego firefighters were called to the single-family home on Shooting Star Drive and notified police, who then called the Humane Society’s law enforcement arm about 3:30 p.m., said Sgt. Blackburn of Humane Law Enforcement.

The dogs, a mix of breeds, will undergo medical exams and hopefully be cleared for adoptions and foster homes, the agency said. The intake adds to the shelter’s overcrowding challenges. All campuses are over capacity when it comes to dogs in their care — this month the agency set a record for a daily average of 801 dogs — adding to the stress on the animals, said agency spokesperson Nina Thompson. The San Diego facility is also working to control a pneumonia outbreak, she said.
