“These misguided teenagers made a very poor choice with serious consequences,” said Fernandez.
A week after the mass shooting at a Texas school, three teens threw a scare into the Jersey City school district when they tossed lit firecrackers into an open school window, district officials confirmed.
Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said the three boys, a 13-year-old and two 15-year-olds, were taken into custody a short time later, just before noon, after police were alerted to firecrackers being thrown at nearby Pershing Field Park. “These misguided teenagers made a very poor choice with serious consequences,” said Fernandez, who noted that top windows of the classroom had been open to increase ventilation.
“We continue to be vigilant about security and the incident in Uvalde, Texas has renewed our focus,” Fernandez said. “Additionally, the Jersey City Police Department has delegated additional officers to patrol the schools and community to offer support and prevent a possible incident.
