With the Suns' Devin Booker taking over, the Spurs fell a win short of making the knockout rounds of the second NBA Cup.
PHOENIX — The Spurs did not get what they wanted most at the Footprint Center on Tuesday, a victory that would have sent them into the quarterfinals of the Emirates NBA Cup. They did, however, gain an experience that might — eventually — help them with bigger goals down the road. Devin Booker scored 29 points to lift Phoenix to a 104-93 victory that bounced the Spurs from the NBA ’s In-Season Tournament one win shy of the knockout rounds.

Even in defeat, the Spurs are hopeful the experience will pay off down the road as they compete for actual playoff berths. Thanks to the Spurs’ loss, Oklahoma City won West Group B and will advance to the quarterfinals. The Spurs finished 2-2 in group play, an improvement from last season when they went 0-4.
