These three March Madness tips could be the difference between your bracket busting by Thursday night or winning your pool.
I know this because why else would you be clicking on this article to gain that little extra edge to beat your opponents in your bracket pool? Don't worry, with these three tips, you're going to be laughing at your friends while they're complaining about their busted bracket after the first two days of the tournament.
You're looking at the No. 5 versus No. 12 matchups and thinking that it's the smart thing to do to take at least one 12 seed, maybe even two or three. But this year, all four No. 5 seeds are strong, with all of them quite possibly underseeded. Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, and St. John's are all strong squads that could make deep runs. If there's one to pick on, it'd be Texas Tech, but even they have the intangibles to make it far. Don't pick a No. 12 seed just because you think it's what the smart predictors do. This year, it might be the ingenious play to go chalk in all four games. If you're going to pick an underdog this tournament, look at how fast they play. Teams that try to run and gun, who are outmatched by more talented teams, generally don't do so hot in March. You want teams that are good in rock fights. They can slow down the pace and drag these power schools into the mud with them. Saint Mary's, UCLA, Virginia, Clemson, Utah State. These five teams play some of the most methodical basketball in the tournament and have the talent to eke out wins over higher seeds. For a long shot, Penn plays the fiery Illinois in round one and could make it a much closer game than it appears on paper. The Arizona Wildcats are the best team in the nation. I am not saying you need to pick them to win your bracket, or you're bust, but this is the most well-rounded team in the competition with the best frontcourt. They aren't overly reliant on a single player, and can out-physical any team in the bracket. While a west coast team hasn't won a men's national title since the Wildcats did it back in 1997, this Arizona team has all the tools in its arsenal to do it. Wisconsin, Arkansas, Gonzaga, and Purdue are good teams in their region, but Arizona is the total package. Don't buy into the hype of better individuals. Believe in the cohesion of Arizona.
