COVID-19: S'porean nurse from National Heart Centre among 7 new community cases
SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health confirmed on Wednesday 451 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore, bringing the total to 38,965, as well as three additional dormitory clusters.
The third Singaporean, case 38697, is a 38-year-old woman who works as a nurse at the National Heart Centre Singapore. The nurse had no recent travel history to affected countries or regions and tested positive for the virus on Tuesday. Two of them – cases 38632 and 38857 – are a 33-year-old Bangladeshi national, contact of a previous case, and a 43-year-old Chinese national with no established links.
Similarly, the number of unlinked cases in the community has increased from an average of two cases per day in the week before, to an average of four per day in the past week. “Singapore is among the earliest countries to grant an approval for the medicine,” the ministry added. Announced on 7 June, the students and staff members were identified to be from Anglican High School, CHIJ Katong Convent, CHIJ St Theresa’s Convent, Geylang Methodist Secondary School and Hwa Chong Institution and Ascensia International School.
Dozens of such clusters been identified thus far, including Singapore’s largest cluster of 2,722 cases linked to S11 Dormitory@Punggol, followed by Sungei Tengah Lodge with 2,033 cases, Jurong Penjuru Dormitory with 1,510 cases, Tuas View Dormitory with 1,398 cases and Cassia @ Penjuru with 1,382 cases.
