. There are several notable connections that make Coleman a potential candidate. Coleman played for Shanahan and the 49ers during the 2019 and 2020 campaigns. Coleman also played two seasons under Shanahan’s tutelage in Atlanta with the Falcons. No coach knows Coleman better than Shanahan does.
Coleman signed with the New York Jets last season, opting to depart San Francisco in favor of East Rutherford alongside several former 49ers coaches including Robert Saleh and Mike LaFleur. Jets general manager Joe Douglas released him approximately two weeks ago. The Jets initially signed Coleman due to his familiarity with the Shanahan system they’d be installing in New York. Coleman’s grasp of that scheme makes him a good bet for a reunion in San Francisco.
Lindsay lit the football world on fire as a rookie undrafted free agent out of Colorado in 2018 by rushing for 1,037 yards as a first-year player. Lindsay accomplished consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns in 2019 by totaling 1,011 yards via the ground. It’s been tough sledding for Lindsay since, who bounced around from Denver to Houston to Miami before landing in Indianapolis.
