A pilot and two other people were seriously injured after the hot air balloon they were riding in came too close to power lines, causing an electrical shock, officials in Indiana said. The incident occurred Sunday just before 7 p.m. in an unincorporated area east of Lowell, the town's fire department said in a Facebook post. A video posted on social media appeared to show the hot air balloon flying near power lines, causing a big spark.
'There was evidence on the passenger basket that electrical current passed from the power lines to the basket and injured the three people in the basket,' the fire department said in a statement. The hot air balloon then crashed into a field. Officials told NBC Chicago that the hot air balloon did not hit the power lines but came close enough to cause an electrical shock.
