Fans will vote on player seeding in pods, and the tournament features single-elimination rounds leading up to a best-of-three final series. The champion team will earn a $250,000 prize.
The inaugural 3-on-3 women's basketball league has unveiled the rules for its three-day tournament, promising an exciting display of athleticism and strategy. Thirty players will be divided into four pods, with the ultimate champion taking home a grand prize of $250,000. The runner-up will receive $50,000, while each semifinalist will earn $25,000. Adding to the financial allure, players on the winning 3-on-3 team will each receive $10,000.
The seeding process in the pods is set to be unique, with fans having the power to determine where players land based on talent, position, and compelling matchups. The league's commitment to fan engagement extends beyond seeding, as the tournament format itself will feature single-elimination rounds leading up to the finals. Games will be played to 11 points or 10 minutes, whichever comes first, ensuring a fast-paced and unpredictable experience. The finals will culminate in a best-of-three series, with each game also being played to 11 points.Traditional scoring will be employed, with baskets worth either two or three points. A seven-second shot clock will add an element of urgency to each possession, and players will retain possession of the ball after scoring. While players have unlimited fouls, consecutive non-shooting fouls will result in a point awarded to the offensive player and possession retained. Foul situations on shots will follow a similar pattern, with the shooter receiving one free throw worth the same value as the attempted basket. For instance, a foul on a 3-pointer would result in three free throw points, while a foul on a 2-pointer would be worth two. Notably, a foul on a made basket will also award an extra point on the successful free throw
