3 men convicted in brutal microwave beating of fellow inmate at N.J. prison

Three men have been charged in the brutal attack of another inmate at Essex County Jail that caused him to suffer a traumatic brain injury, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II said.

Jackson used a mop bucket and beverage dispenser in the assault, officials said. He was also charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault, but was not convicted due to a hung jury, prosecutors said. The assault lasted about two minutes and was captured on surveillance footage. Authorities did not comment on a motive for the attack.
