They've been captured on canvas

An inspirational Notts family is starring in a TV programme celebrating 75 years of the National Health Service - by capturing them on canvas. BBC One series Extraordinary Portraits will feature the Edwards family in the penultimate episode to be screened on Monday, August 14.

Gerrie, 55, a corporate matron at King's Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield, said: "It all started with my mum as she worked with the City Hospital years ago as an auxiliary nurse as they called back then. I am extremely proud to work for the NHS. Adebanji’s process involved visiting the different family members at their places of work, with parts of the show filmed at King’s Mill Hospital. He also attended a family meal at Rhishana’s house to capture a normal evening with the family.

The portrait is now in the Edwards' home but has yet to go up on the wall. Gerrie said: "We inquired about what would happen with it after we'd finished all the filming. When we saw it we were just in awe of how fantastic it looked. We approached the artist and he gifted it to us. She said: "I think it's absolutely gorgeous. It's so beautiful and the artist has done us proud. It's a very good likeness."
