UPDATE: A victim injured in Monday night's house fire in North Philadelphia has died, fire officials say. One person remains hospitalized while three others have died:
Officials with the Philadelphia Fire Department said two people were found dead on the second floor during the firefight. The victims were a woman in her late-50s and a man in his early-60s, according to Philly police. The cause of their deaths will be determined by the medical examiner, PFD spokesperson Kathy Matheson said.
Three other victims jumped from the second floor to escape the flames and smoke, officials said. Two of them were taken to the hospital. A 39-year-old man later died, according to police and fire officials, and the 34-year-old was placed in critical condition.Sign up for NBC Philadelphia newsletters.
Firefighters were able to bring the flames under control shortly before 10:30 p.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The fire department reiterated that Philadelphia residents can contact 311 and the PFD to install smoke alarms for free.
