In the 1950s, a small western town hosts its annual Asteroid Day convention, but is soon subjected to a military quarantine.
All of Anderson's stylish hallmarks are present, and Asteroid City is perhaps the most artistic film in his catalog. Despite all the absurd style, the movie also features some subtly compelling characters and an interesting narrative. It asks the viewer to engage and look beneath the facade to see what's really going on. It borders on surrealism at times, but isn't afraid to have goofy laughs too.
It's a great addition to Peacock's lineup, and shouldn't be forgotten. 2 The Blues Brothers Turning the clock back four and a half decades, The Blues Brothers is one of the greatest comedies of the 1980s. Based on the characters from SNL, the film follows Jake and Elwood Blues as they receive a divine mission to help save their old orphanage.
Musical comedies are a lost art, and The Blues Brothers pays tribute to the cinema of the past, and American musical heritage. The comedy gets more and more bombastic with each passing scene, until it devolves into one absurd moment after another. The music is engrossing, and features legends like Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles.
Like a lot of great movies on streaming, The Blues Brothers can be watched over and over again without losing any of its luster. 1 Hamnet Chloé Zhao's Hamnet is an unabashed drama that is intended to purge the soul in the best way, and the viewer leaves the movie having changed a little. After the death of his young son, William Shakespeare is inspired to write the greatest play of his life.
The film largely focuses on Agnes, Shakespeare's wife, and Jessie Buckley gives the performance of a lifetime. Jessie Buckley won the Oscar for Best Actress in 2026. Though the film's historical accuracy is all over the place, it's compelling drama narrative makes up for any factual shortcomings. The film delves into some of the darkest subjects imaginable, but juxtaposes them with the beauty of art and creation.
Peacock subscribers have access to one of the best dramas in recent memory, and Hamnet is a must-watch for all fans of cinema.
