3.8 earthquake near San Jacinto fault lightly shakes San Diego County [Breaking]
A magnitude 3.8 earthquake occurred at 7:28 a.m. Thursday in western Imperial County, producing light shaking that was felt throughout San Diego County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.22 miles south-southeast of Ocotillo Wells, near the San Jacinto fault, the most active seismic system in Southern California.
The fault “is considered the most active because it has a lot of micro earthquake activity and because it has sustained up to 10 earthquakes of magnitude 6 or larger in the past 120 years,” San Diego State University geologist Tom RockwellThe USGS said Thursday’s quake was felt everywhere from Julian to Campo to Oceanside to San Ysidro.
