The tremor hit at 10:02 a.m. with a depth of 4.5 miles near Alum Rock in the hills straddling Alameda, Santa Clara and San Joaquin counties, according to the USGS. The epicenter was about 15 miles south of Livermore, 16.5 miles northeast of Milpitas and 19 miles northeast of San Jose.
