The remake of 3:10 to Yuma features an incredibly impressive cast of stars and character actors. Based on a short story that also inspired a 1957 Glenn Ford and Van Heflin film of the same name, 3:10 to Yuma is a compelling character drama filtered through the lense of a western adventure. The film is largely about Ben Wade, a dangerous criminal in the wild west who is unexpectedly captured.
Character: Russel Crowe plays Ben Wade, a charismatic and ruthless outlaw in 3:10 to Yuma. The leader of a gang of criminals making their way through the Arizona Territory in 1884, Wade finds himself hunted throughout the film by agents of the law. Much of the film's central drama comes from pitting Wade's witty and dark perspective against Dan Evans, an innocent and put-upon father who finds himself entangled in efforts to bring Wade to justice.

Butterfield proves to be a reliable figure in the film, a nomially civilized figure in contrast to the more rough-edged Dan or criminal Wade.
