A catastrophic late-night collision on State Route 177 in Davis County has left one person dead and another injured, authorities reported Wednesday.
A driver was found dead inside a black truck off the West Davis Corridor in Kaysville, Utah, on Aug. 21, 2024, five hours after UHP troopers responded to the initial crash, where the driver of a white truck was found alive and taken to the hospital.
However, authorities failed to notice a second vehicle involved in the crash approximately 1000 feet down the road. When he was on the shoulder, he swerved back into the travel lanes overcorrecting, causing him to lose control and travel into the median. The Chevy began to roll when it was halfway through the median. The Chevy came to a stop in the two southbound lanes.
The Chevy was pushed off to the right shoulder by the impact and had major damage. When officers arrived, they only noticed the Chevy. There were no witnesses to the accident, and nobody saw the other Ford 1000 feet south of the Chevy. Images shared by the department of safety showed the truck that was discovered hours after responding troopers gave the green light to reopen lanes. It can be seen off the roadway, which is not lit at night, near a fence in an area that passing headlights likely wouldn't illuminate prominently.
