The Montgomery Police Department announced Monday that a second suspect has been charged in connection to the Oct. 4 mass shooting downtown that killed two people and injured 12 others.

According to MPD , 19-year-old Dantavious McGhee is charged with one count of Capital Murder, nine counts of First Degree Assault, and three counts of Second Degree Assault. Police say they took McGhee into custody Monday and booked him into the Montgomery County Detention Facility.

“This progress reflects the swift response, tireless efforts and professionalism of the Montgomery Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division,” a spokesperson for the department said Monday.investigators believed that the shooting happened after one person was targeted inside a crowd of people near downtown’s Bibb Street and Commerce Street.MPD last reported that five people were still in critical condition as of last week with seven more recovering from non-life threatening wounds. The second arrest in last week’s downtown shooting is another step toward justice for the victims, their families, and our city. From the start, I promised that we would make it a priority to use all of the resources available to catch anyone who chose to fire into a crowd of innocent people. That promise stands. We are still pursuing others connected to this horrific shooting, and I want to thank the Montgomery Police Department — along with our local, state, and federal partners — for their relentless work to bring these suspects to justice. Their dedication proves that violence will not define Montgomery — nor will it go unanswered. We will continue working to make our city safer, to strengthen our communities, and to give our young people better paths than crime or chaos. Police are still asking anyone with information pertaining to the investigation to contact CrimeStoppers at 215-STOP or MPD at 334-625-2831.Large brush fire reported near Prattville’s International Paper MillWoman injured in Monday afternoon shooting
