Hyejeong Shin, 29, graduated from Rutgers University in 2019 with bachelor's degree in political science and a minor in Chinese. She allegedly tried to enroll in New Brunswick High School with a fake birth certificate.

Her academic interests included language and linguistics and how they affect human identity and culture, according to a bio posted on the Rutgers site. Shin also said she served as secretary of Global Citizen, an activist group at Rutgers that raises awareness about poverty and other issues.

Court documents list Shin’s address as an upscale high-rise apartment building in downtown New Brunswick.
