A 29-year-old man was arrested after police said officers found him armed with a cache of weapons in New York early Wednesday morning.
New York Police Department Chief Jeffrey B. Maddrey identified the suspect as 29-year-old Judd Sanson, of Queens, noting he was arrested during a random traffic stop.
Maddrey said three officers in an unmarked car were out patrolling Wednesday around 1:30 a.m. and noticed a black Ford Explorer with blacked out license plates. Officers searched the SUV, where Maddrey said they found a 9 mm Glock, nine loaded magazines, bodyarmor, handcuffs, NYPD uniform items, two axes, a stun gun, multiple knives, weighted whip, and expandable baton.
“Members of this department make gun arrests, weapons arrests, arrests for knives every day, but an arrest of this magnitude, the amount of ammunition, NYPD paraphernalia in the car was significant, and we wanted to make sure we updated the community and the press,” Maddrey said. The department shared a photo that shows all the items police seized. Aside from the items Maddrey mentioned, there appeared to be a Guy Fawkes “V for Vendetta” mask and an orange NYC transit vest.
Maddrey said police are actively investigating and working to determine a motive. He added they are also looking into whether the suspect planned an attack.
