Police are on the scene of a man barricaded inside a home on Gary Drive.
STRONGSVILLE, Ohio - A 26-year-old man is in custody on Wednesday afternoon after barricading himself in a Strongsville home. In a release from Strongsville Police, at around 5:18 p.m., officers responded to the 13000 block of Gray Drive for a report of a 26-year-old man having a mental health crisis.
The Strongsville Police Chief says the family reported the man had a gun to his head, and soon after, police arrived, everyone but the 26-year-old got out of the house. “For something like this to happen, it’s a little concerning, of course, and now we’re barricaded in a basement and can’t see what’s going on,” said Jim Lawler during the standoff.“It looked like police were shooting some sort of pellets or gas into the home, and then the police said over the loudspeaker, ‘Stop shooting at our drones,’ and my wife said she did hear the popping noise,” said Lawler.Officers tried to contact the man who was alone inside the home, but the man would not respond.Nearby Whitney Elementary School was closed, but all other schools in the district remained open. According to the release, SEB negotiators were able to talk the man into coming out of the house at 1:40 p.m.Strongville Police said no injuries occurred. This is a developing story.
