The Red Cross is also assisting the displaced residents.Hector Gonzalez, who was staying with his fiancee at the Motel 6, said they were getting ready to leave the hotel when they walked outside and noticed smoke. Gonzalez said at first they thought it was people smoking cigarettes, but looked over and saw flames coming from the office portion of the building.
“We took our animals, put them in the car and got out,” Gonzalez said. Grabbing the cat and dog, Gonzalez said they had no idea where they would be staying the night but knew they couldn’t stay there. “We weren’t worried about nothing else, as long as we were safe.”
