The Department of Health (DOH)-6 said on Friday, June 24, that 25 cases of the mosquito-borne disease Japanese encephalitis were recorded in Western Visayas. ManilaBulletin
DOH-6 said Iloilo had the most number of Japanese encephalitis cases with 12, including four fatalities.The DOH-6 said these 25 positive cases came from 256 samples taken all over the region with 163 pending results.
It also disclosed that majority of those infected with Japanese encephalitis were males and the median age is four-years-old. To address the rising cases of Japanese encephalitis, the DOH-6 distributed vector control substances to all local governments in the six provinces and two highly urbanized cities in the region.
The DOH-6 reiterated the implementation of the 4S strategy for dengue, also a mosquito-borne disease. These are search and destroy, self-protection measures, seek early consultation, and support fogging or spraying.
