THE Philippine Coast Guard has rescued 24 people aboard a wooden-hulled vessel drifting at sea off the province of Tawi-Tawi, the PCG said Wednesday, August 30, 2023.
The PCG in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao said they were rescued in the evening of Monday, August 28, near Luuk Tulay, Bongao, the capital town of Tawi-Tawi. The PCG-Barmm said that 18 of the 24 are passengers and the remaining six are crew of the ill-fated vessel, ML Ashlea. The PCG-Barmm said that based on investigation, ML Ashlea drifted at sea after its propeller broke while navigating from Bongao port to the island town of Languyan, Tawi-Tawi.
The Coast Guard Sub-Station in Languyan immediately dispatched a search and rescue team utilizing a rented vessel, ML Lady Rose, to aid ML Ashlea after its skipper, Hayudini Damih, called for help.ML Ashlea is owned by Beltran Jairil, the coast guard said.SunStar website welcomes friendly debate, but comments posted on this site do not necessarily reflect the views of the SunStar management and its affiliates.
