The year 2026 has already seen notable game releases such as 007 First Light and Marvel's Wolverine, with Grand Theft Auto 6 set for a November 19 launch after delays. July brings EA Sports College Football 27 and Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced, a next-gen remake currently holding 84% on Metacritic, despite minor criticisms over microtransactions.
2026 has already been a year full of exciting new game releases, and one of the first that immediately comes to mind is 007 First Light.
The hit James Bond video game was developed by IO Interactive, and it stars Patrick Gibson as a young James Bond — Gibson recently portrayed a young Dexter Morgan in Dexter: Original Sin. Looking forward in 2026, there are a few big releases coming later in the year, including Marvel’s Wolverine, the next big Marvel outing from Insomniac Games, the same studio behind the critically acclaimed Spider-Man trilogy.
However, the big whale overshadowing everything is Grand Theft Auto 6, which has finally been set for release on November 19 after being delayed several times. The game will launch this year and will not be subject to further delays with pre-orders now open. July also has a few new releases to be excited about for fans of various genres, including but not limited to EA Sports College Football 27, which launches this Thursday, July 9.
It’s coming out on the same day as Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, the ground-up remake for next-generation consoles of the beloved Assassin’s Creed game that was originally published in 2013. The first reviews for Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced hit Metacritic this morning after the review embargo lifted, and at the time of writing, the game holds a strong 84% score from critics on the aggregate site.
The PlayStation 5 and PC reviews come in at an average of 84%, while the Xbox Series X reviews fall slightly lower, at 82%. Most critics agree that the game is a perfect remake that pays homage to the original, even if it does feature some frustrating Ubisoftisms like microtransactions for cosmetic outfits.
This 84% for Black Flag Resynced is slightly lower than the 88% of the original game, but there is time for it to improve as more scores come in.
