as the biggest, it would probably be the styling—not that it’s unattractive, but it’s just not as trucky as the Cruz’s arch-rival,. Hyundai is going to try to address that for 2025, with a bigger, bolder grille that leads a host of useful changes for the truck.
Speaking of function: What a perfect segue to the updated interior, which gets the sweeping twin-screen curved-panel setup we’ve seen in other Hyundai and Kia models. That change necessitates a new center stack, and we’re sure no one will complain about dial-and-button stereo and HVAC controls lifted almost directly from the new Santa Fe. The big half-T transmission shifter remains the same.
Mechanically, the Santa Cruz’s 2.5-liter engine remains unchanged, soldiering on in 191-hp naturally-aspirated and 281-hp turbocharged form, though the latter now offers a towing mode. Other new odds and ends include type C USB ports, phone-as-key and fingerprint entry, and new paint colors. Does the Santa Cruz now look truckier than the boxier Maverick? Maybe not, but the new bolder front end, be it bechromed or dechromed, will certainly make the 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz stand out better, and the new interior is a welcome change. You’ll be able to decide for yourself soon enough, as the updated Santa Cruz will make its debut at the New York Auto Show and arrive in dealerships this summer.
