Homicides in Harrisburg dropped sharply in 2025, according to data from the City of Harrisburg Bureau of Police. In the 2025 annual report, officials noted a total of 14 reportable homicides. In 2024, Harrisburg reported 22 homicide victims, which is roughly 57% higher than 2025's totals and represented a surge from the 14 also reported in 2023.
Diving deeper into the data, 11 were reported as murder, while two were deemed negligent manslaughter, and one was said to be a justifiable homicide. Of the 14 reported homicides, 10 ended in arrests. When taking into account the homicide classified as "justifiable," there are three unsolved homicides. That reported 78.6% clearance rate exceeded the 2024 national average of 61.4%, according to the annual report.Four of the 14 people killed in 2025 were aged 16-20, according to the report, and 12 of the 14 homicide victims were men. Ten of the victims were reportedly Black men, two were Black women, and two were white men.Of the 11 individuals accused of homicide in 2025, three were Black men aged 31-35, while two were Black men between the ages of 46 and 50. The report showed that, in total, nine of the 11 accused were Black, while one was white and the other was a white Hispanic. Data showed that 57% of the reported homicides in 2025 were caused by a firearm, and 22% came as the result of a "cutting instrument."
