Ford is set to electrify its off-road SUV.
. Given Ford's average four-year cadence for refreshing vehicles, we could see the sixth-generation Bronco get a face-lift and enhanced drivetrain options as soon as 2024.Ford has made a big commitment toward electrifying its truck and SUV lineup, and offering a plug-in hybrid option on one of its most popular vehicles is a large step in this direction. One of our chief complaints with Ford's Bronco revival has been the vehicle's abysmal fuel economy.
During the engineering phase, the SUV's front axle mounting location was moved forward approximately 2 inches versus its Ranger platform mate, in part to allow space for the necessary hybrid hardware. We expect theto be powered by the company's 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4 engine and backed by a 10-speed modular hybrid transmission.
