The 2024 Women’s U.S. Open held its opening round at the Lancaster Country Club on Thursday, with the field of 156 players battling again on Friday to survive the cut.
Thousands of people gathered at the Lancaster Country Club on Thursday to watch the opening round of the 79th L PGA Women’s U.S. Open, which represents the 999th championship tournament hosted by the United States Golf Association.
Between the tee box and green on hole 16, the USGA set up a museum with vintage and modern golf memorabilia from the best men and women golfers to ever play the game. You can even stop by and try to make some putts with golf clubs and balls from the 1920s through the 1960s. Historic golf equipment and clothing used by players such as Tiger Woods, Annika Sorenstam and Ben Hogan are also on display.
The only golfer from Pennsylvania participating in this year’s tournament is Rachel Rohanna, of Marianna, Washington County, who works as the head women’s golf coach at Waynesburg University. Nelly Korda, the number-one ranked women’s golfer in the world, and Jennifer Kupcho, two fan favorites, both had large galleries of spectators walking with their groups. Both had their difficulties, with Korda finishing 10 over par and Kupcho at 7 over par.
