We put the refreshed Atlas to the test. So, how does the VW stack up?
Under more spirited driving, the Atlas tends to tilt and lean some on its soft suspension. On imperfect and buckled terrain, editors also reported that it tended to pick up unwanted vertical body motions which sent it"pogo-ing and rebounding in strange places." Its steering feel remains lighter, though this is not an outlier for vehicles in its class.
We clocked the Atlas to hit 60 mph from a stop in 7.5 seconds, whereas the aforementioned Grand Highlander with the base 2.4-liter did it in 8.3 seconds and thein a faster 6.9 seconds. The Atlas achieved a 15.7-second quarter-mile time at 91.3 mph. In comparison, the Grand Highlander and Telluride put down 16.3 seconds at 86.9 mph and 15.2 seconds at 92.5 mph, respectively. Unsurprisingly, this is the Telluride's slightly higher horsepower output at work.
