The field may be even better for the 6A girls 4x200 relay, as it will include five of the top 10 teams in the country. Shadow Creek ranks second nationally at 1:35.76 and will be joined by No. 5 Duncanville , No. 6 DeSoto , No. 9 Atascocita and No. 10 Humble Summer Creek . Burlison set the 5A state-meet record in the 3,200 last year, winning in 8:54.47. He ran 4:03.85 for a true mile last year and could challenge the 1,600 state-meet records of 4:06.14 for the UIL’s second-largest classification and 4:02.30 for all classifications.The Woodlands set the national record in the boys 4x200 relay by running 1:23.25 at the state meet in 2018. That record could be in jeopardy on Saturday when Duncanville competes in the 6A race.
Duncanville should be challenged Saturday, as The Woodlands ran 1:23.76 at the 6A Region II meet, a time that is just outside the top 10 on the all-time national leaderboard. The 4x200 relay is an event that has been dominated by the Lone Star State, as Texas schools own the top seven times and nine of the top 10 times in U.S. history.The state record in the girls 100 meters has stood since 2008, when Fort Worth Dunbar’s Victoria Jordan ran 11.16 at the state meet.
