As Sony's Spider-Man Universe expands, one movie was seemingly in limbo, but a new production update appears to reveal when it will start filming.
Sony's Spider-Man Universe film El Muerto, which stars Bad Bunny in the title role, finally gets a production update. Sony's Spider-Man Universe will soon expand with the releases of Kraven the Hunter, El Muerto, and Madame Web. While the other two upcoming SSU films have several details revealed, be it plot points, set photos, or casting updates, almost nothing has been revealed about El Muerto's cast or story. However, a new update on the movie has finally emerged.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT According to a new production list by the Film & Television Industry Alliance, El Muerto appears to be aiming for an August 7, 2023, filming start. This is the first update on the state of the movie since El Muerto received a negative release date update. In the April news, Bad Bunny's publicist revealed that El Muerto was "at a standstill," explaining why the film had not entered production yet.
El Muerto Will Likely Get A New Release Date El Muerto is currently dated for a January 12, 2024, release. Even if the new information about the movie starting filming in August is incorrect, there is no way that Sony's Spider-Man Universe film will meet its set release date. Going by past and upcoming SSU releases, there is an idea of when El Muerto might finally arrive in theaters. The SSU has released three movies so far, which include Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and Morbius.
Venom started production on October 2017, with the movie releasing in theaters a year later, on October 2018. Morbius tried to maintain a similar pattern between its filming start and release date, but the pandemic made it impossible, with the vampire movie having cameras start rolling on February 2019 and the film releasing on April 2022. Venom: Let There Be Carnage started filming on November 2019, debuting in October 2021, also affected by the pandemic.
Sony's Spider-Man Universe also has two upcoming movies that help figure out when El Muerto should be released. Kraven the Hunter debuts in theaters this October, with filming on the movie having started on February 2022. Madame Web is set to debut on February 2024, with the movie's production having started on July 2022. A one-year gap seems to be the smallest amount of time between Sony's Spider-Man Universe films entering production and being released.
