Inside, entry-level models feature a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch central touchscreen, with the dual 10.25-inch displays being reserved for higher trims. The latest version of the MBUX infotainment brings wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, optional mini-games, and an improved voice assistant that learns the preferences of the driver.
The 10-color ambient lighting and the optional Burmester surround sound system with Dolby Atmos are for those who enjoy more premium creature comforts in their Mercedes SUV. In terms of safety systems, Mercedes improved the Driving Assistance package and the Parking package with a 360-degree camera. A simple rear-view camera and the Highbeam Assist are standard in all trims, with the Trailer Manoeuvering Assist being available in the GLA/GLB for the first time.
The petrol engine options of the GLA and GLB – including the 35 AMG – have been mildly electrified, with the carry-over diesels remaining ICE-only. The new 48-volt mild-hybrid system features a belt-driven starter-generator that helps lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions, while offering up to an extra 13 hp for a brief period of time.
