SAN ANTONIO - The Olympics have been going on since 1896 in Athens, Greece. And yet, 2024 will be the first year in history with full gender equality and parody
among athletes.In the 1896 games, there were 241 athletes – none of them were females.There were 997 athletes, only 22 females – which equals about just 2.2% of the field.In Helsinki in 1952 -- women broke into the double digits for the first time at 10.5% of the Olympic field.And now this year, ironically once again in Paris , women have reached full gender equality : one woman for every one man will be competing in the 2024 Olympics .
"It's a great thing to see that women are talented and they can run those events and that there is equal parody,” Monday said. “It's really important." As a sophomore earlier this summer, she competed in her first Olympic trials - coming in 26th in the 5,000M.Her dream is to become an Olympian.
