In 2013, former Chandler edge rusher Dion Jordan went third overall to the Miami Dolphins. Running backs normally don't go this high in the draft. But Robinson is special. He's a great pass catcher and an electric runner. He won the Doak Walker Award for the best running back in college football last season at Texas when he ran for 1,580 yards on 258 carries last season, averaging 6.1 yards per carry. He had 18 touchdowns. He caught 19 passes for 314 yards and two more TDs last season in 12 games.Minutes after the Cardinals trade out of the third spot, they traded back up from No. 12 to No. 6 with the Detroit Lions and selected Ohio State offensive lineman Paris Johnson Jr. Arizona traded the 34th overall pick, the Cardinals' original second-rounder, to Detroit along with the 12th overall pick. Johnson was the consensus top-rated offensive lineman in the draft and according to reports, quarterback Kyler Murray had advocated for his selection.The first big bombshell trade of the draft came early, whenand sent it to the Houston Texans for the 12th overall pick, No. 33 , a first-round pick in 2024 and a third-round pick in 2024. Houston also got the 105th overall pick from the Cardinals in the deal. Reaction to the trade from the Republic'sSo now, to see who is available to the Cardinals at No. 12. Clearly the Cardinals had offers for the third pick and chose the one they liked the best to build for the future. Arizona already has three additional draft picks in 2024. With the trade, the Cardinals now have a later first-round pick, two second-rounders, two third-rounders, one in the fifth round and two in the sixth.Just as the NFL Draft was set to begin, the Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals settled a tampering investigation involving former Eagles defensive coordinator-now Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon. The terms of the settlement are as follows: the Eagles traded the 94th overall pick in this year's draft and a 2024 fifth-round pick to the Cardinals for the 66th pick.The Cardinals and Eagles released a joint statement on the matter moments before the draft started. "The Arizona Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles have agreed on the settlement of an issue concerning an instance of impermissible contact by Arizona during its head coaching search this past January. "The Cardinals self-reported to the National Football League that General Manager Monti Ossenfort had a phone conversation with then-Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon in the days following the NFC Championship Game, a period during which contact is not permitted under the League’s Anti-Tampering Policy." Not a great way to get things started for the Cardinals, who are already dealing with other off the field matters. And not exactly a good start for the new GM, as this action is simply fuel for more criticism of the organization.The first round of Thursday's NFL Draft will end with 31 picks and not 32. This is because the Miami Dolphins were stripped of their first-round pick for violations of NFL policies related to the integrity of the game. Last August after a six-month investigation found that the Dolphins, primarily team owner Stephen Ross and vice chairman/limited partner Bruce Beal, violated the anti-tampering policy three times from 2019 to 2022 by holding conversations with quarterback Tom Brady and the agent for former New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton. Miami also lost its third-round pick in 2024. The Dolphins will get their first pick of 2023 in Friday's second round.The Cardinals dealt their first round pick last year to the Baltimore Ravens for Marquise"Hollywood" Brown last year on Day 1 of the draft, so their first pick was No. 55 overall in the second round. That was tight end Trey McBride, who was asked about that experience Wednesday at Cardinals veteran mini-camp.Arizona Cardinals could trade DeAndre Hopkins to Baltimore Ravens during NFL draft In addition to the ongoing speculation about the team being interested in trading out of the No. 3 overall spot to acquire more draft picks, word came out 3½ hours before the start of the draft itself that the Ravens had agreed to a five-year contract extension with quarterback Lamar Jackson, which could, in turn, fast-track a trade that would send wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from Arizona to Baltimore.
