2022 election: Q&A with Rep. Mike Levin, 49th Congressional District candidate [Opinion]
Lisa Bartlett, Mike Levin, Brian Maryott, Josiah O’Neil, Nadia Smalley, Renee Taylor are running for California’s 49th Congressional District.A: Combating climate change is a top priority for me as a member of both the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis and the House Committee on Natural Resources. I strongly believe we can protect our environment and grow our economy at the same time, creating good-paying clean energy jobs in the process.
A: I believe the United States has had a very strong response to the war in Ukraine and President Joe Biden has united our global allies against Russian President Vladimir Putin. I believe additional sanctions, military resources and humanitarian aid are needed as the war continues. I also believe we must prepare to work with the global community in prosecuting everyone responsible for the war crimes Russia is committing in Ukraine.A: This issue is personal to me.
Q: How would you try to improve border wait times for personal and commercial crossers at the U.S.-Mexico border? My Saving Us from Pandemic Era Resistance by Building a Unified Global Strategy or SUPER BUGS Act, which Iwith Rep. Drew Ferguson, R-Ga., would direct the Department of Health and Human Services, in consultation with the Department of State, to enter into agreements with foreign countries to help develop and commercialize new antimicrobial drugs.
I am a co-sponsor of the Protecting Pre-existing Conditions and Making Health Care More Affordable Act to improve health insurance access and affordability, and to undo the Trump administration’s sabotage of the Affordable Care Act. This includes strengthening tax credits for middle-class families, requiring plans to cover all essential health benefits, ensuring broad coverage of prescription drugs, and funding outreach and education.
